OF GOOD AND EVIL
The thought just struck me, very few people in this world, myself included, hardly ever take the time to really contemplate the meaning of the two opposing forces, good and evil! We continuously bounce back and forth between these two forces as if by rote rather than design.
We know that good is, simply stated, the force that has positive or desirable qualities to enhance the well being of all. On the other hand, evil is the direct opposite. Nothing is as well defined as the difference between these two forces.
God is the symbolic figurehead of goodness. Satan, or the devil, is the symbolic figure of evil. These figures are almost universal. God was here first and he made man in his own image and with a will of his own. That was good. He said so! Then all at once the devil shows up in the mix. So, where did this evil come from? Logically speaking, it was here all along and became manifest when man disrupted the perfect goodness when he disobeyed God. From that moment on these two forces became a package. A two headed coin, so to speak. You cannot, in this world, have one without the other. Evil cannot exist in the presence of perfect goodness, and goodness cannot exist in the presence of pure evil. Thus, we have our heaven and our hell!
Whether we like it or not, mankind is caught right smack dab square in the middle of this struggle. Atheists try to dodge the issue by denying the existence of God, i.e., goodness! The agnostics are like blindfolded children that revel in the goodness of the game and then deny they had a good time. Most of us, however, are trying to find a way out of the quagmire!
We can liken this to a scale ranging from pure black representing pure evil, graduating down the scale through the lessening stages of gray into pure white, representing perfect goodness. Somewhere in this range is a point of no return and is valid in either direction. We are in the middle. There are no alternatives! We must make choices. The question is where do we go from here?
Most major religions of this world claim to have a way out of the fix in which man has found himself. To obtain a place in eternity without the presence of evil, I chose the faith that is right for me. Any or all of them may have the answer for you but I doubt it. The choice is yours and no one else can make it for you. God truly works in strange and mysterious ways!
Faith in this goodness, becomes an intrinsic part of ourselves and is our only protection against it’s direct opposite evil; faith then takes us beyond reason and understanding, and we are amazed to find ourselves cloaked in the protection of absolution!
The human intellect is conditioned to make ALL things a choice between good and evil. I am not God the symbolic figurehead of goodness and I’m not Satan or the devil, the symbolic figure of evil. I am a human being and I am a Christian because another human being with His total commitment to God showed me how to become a part of this universal goodness for all eternity; Gods plan for salvation and a joint venture with His own creation! When Jesus Christ arose from the dead and ascended into heaven he left us with a spirit of goodness that abides with us and is on call at a moments notice. God then became a completed spiritual triune, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – the past, the present and the future!
From that moment on the spiritual nature of mankind was left with the ultimate choice, either accept His plan or reject it. It is that simple! Rejection is therefore self-destructive!
Once you accept this goodness into your heart, mind and spirit you are free! This freedom gives you power beyond your wildest imagination for the enhancement of His kingdom through love and understanding, for with God everything is truly possible. You are not shackled by this warfare between the forces of good and evil. A whole new dimension, a universal mindset of love and intellect is yours to explore for all time. For all eternity!
When you make the decision to accept His plan it is a slow interdependent process and each unique individual regardless of race, sex or intellect is allowed to keep as much as you can retain.
Once you believe, then you know, then you grow, forevermore!
Wisdom is the understanding of what is true, right and lasting. Without believing you are totally unable to attain the knowledge and the growth to become a wise person and with God, your wisdom is limited only by your commitment to his goodness and love.
Love ceases to be an acute itch and gradually you begin to experience a transformation from the symptoms of selfishness, jealously and anxiety to a warm glow of sharing in the goodness and a caring for each other in a way you never though possible before. This warm glow of love seems to grow with each moment you listen and obey His spirit that is always available at a moment’s notice!
When you stand before your fellowman and openly confess that you believe in His plan for your salvation the facade of your former self crumbles. Just as you are, you become a new person. As you gradually grow in God’s grace, living life one day at a time becomes a joy to behold. You are secure forevermore! Whether your life in this world last one more day or many, many years, you are free from fear. You know where you are going and the worse fears, those of the unknown, are now behind you. You have placed your very being in His care and He will go the last mile for you. Remember, He has never broken a promise!
Gradually you begin to change your thinking process. It becomes more positive in every aspect. Your intellect ceases to judge things in the usual sense of doubt between right and wrong. You have become part of God’s plan and like Job, you learn that with all circumstances here on this earth the correct answer lies with God and with Him alone. The Holy Spirit is readily available to lead you in to the path of righteousness and deliver you from evil. Always!
You become more and more comfortable with an awareness of God’s mysterious universal intellect. A voice that seems to guide you and protect you as you walk in harms way over some very treacherous ground. A voice that gives you license to accept his gifts and live joyous lives with humor and with praise!
While awaiting resurrection from the black holes of our mind,
We reach out in desperation, for our kindred, for our kind.
We grapple fondly in our folly, sating greedy, selfish needs
In a garden filled with sadness, overgrown with sinful deeds.
In our maddening rush to judgment, soothing pangs within the id,
On the road to our Damascus, we regret the evil deeds we did.
As we ponder in the darkness, waiting for the sun to rise,
In a rebirth now beginning, we find wherein the answer lies!
We will find no panacea and there is no Promised Land
Within this great adventure and the space in which we stand,
Lest we reject the force of evil and yield to the sublime
We will slip into the darkness, in this blinking eye of time!
