CHURCH
I am a Methodist and I am saddened.
I feel that my church
Has, more or less,
Left me!
My faith is intact,
But I am uncomfortable
With change;
Change just for the sake of change
Within itself.
I find myself
Seeking enlightenment
Of truth.
Truths that have already stood the test
Of time!
Personally,
I do not know anyone
Alive today
That has ever had an original
Thought!
Truth to the human ear
Becomes available
To all who will only
Believe!
To completely understand God
Is a human impossibility!
This belief
Will provide the faith
That He has the answers!
Bishops
Apparently do not have the answers.
And the clergy
Apparently do not have the answers.
Else they would realize
What is lasting and true!
Can they spiritually lead the laity
With Godly wisdom?
Has our denominational institution
Became a separate entity unto itself?
Are we perpetuating our own image?
Have we forgotten our intended purpose?
To seek disciples
For Jesus Christ!
Gods plan for salvation
Is very simple; and it is very private.
We must believe!
We accept this gift individually
We must share it collectively!
And selflessly.
“The wages of sin is death
But the gift of God is eternal life.”
We must be responsible people
Balanced and unafraid.
Respectable
Of our own intellect
As we think for ourselves
Led by the Holy Spirit
If our leaders fail us
We must find
New leaders.
If our institutions
Lead us down dark and dreary paths,
We must find the light
To lead us home.
As Methodists,
We know that the truths
Of Christianity
Are
Unchangeable.
God help us
To have and to hold these truths!
The residual influence
Of the tried and true
Heritage of Methodism
Within
The Protestant churches
Of America is a wonderment to behold!
Christianity
Is the divine and progressive nature
Of a loving God.
We have always
Shared this gift
With reverence,
With beauty,
And with love!
Why change now?
